Coalition of Political Parties in Adamawa state rejected the imposition of N50,000 and 250,000 for candidates vying for councillorship and Chairmanship positions respectively by the state independent electoral commission (ADSIEC).
The parties numbering about 10 signed an official letter to the Speaker Adamawa state House of Assembly,making a passionate appeal for an urgent intervention to look into the fees imposed on candidates vying for positions in the forth-coming councils elections in the state coming up 9th November,2019.
According to them the imposition requirements by ADSIEC is “undemocratic, untimely, unusual and unwarranted”, haven not contain in the guidelines and the notices earlier issued on the conduct of the 2019 Local Government election in the state.
“We wish to draw the attention of the hallowed legislative chamber to the present state of affairs concerning the aforementioned election involving the unwarranted imposition of the sum of N50,000 and N250,000 respectively on all the candidates vying for councillorship and Chairmanship positions during the aforesaid election as amount of monies payable to serve as a condition precedent for the final submission of the form(s) in CF 001 and CF 002 of ADSIEC. ” They said
They continued to say that” The requirement is describe as illegal and an attempt to truncate democracy at the grassroot in Adamawa state. ”
They worried that the monies are tantamount to an inducement and bribe as no SIEC across the country increase a dime for form CF 001 and 002,calling on the hallowed legislative chamber to Wade off the matter
