Barr. Shagnah Pwamaddi Maboyofe, Advocate for True LGC Autonomy, has expressed outrage over the appointment of a Nigerian Governors Forum representative to an extrajudicial committee tasked with implementing the Supreme Court judgment on Local Government Council financial autonomy.
Maboye described the move as a “blatant contempt of court” and accused the Federal Government of taking a “premedieval approach” to enforcing the judgment by involving the same governors who were defendants in the case.

The Adamawa State Local Government Autonomy Forum has also called for the withdrawal of the appointment, labeling it “contemptuous, counterproductive, and against the will and wishes of the Nigerian masses.”
Maboyofe argued that the inclusion of governors in the committee undermines the rule of law, equity, and good conscience, and is a clear attempt to subvert the judgment of the apex court.
He cited the Supreme Court’s description of the governors as “dangerous species of our democracy” due to their corrupt practices and unbridled conducts over local council finances.
The Nigerian public is reportedly embittered by the governors’ actions, and their inclusion in the implementation committee is seen as a betrayal of the trust and aspirations of the people.
