The All Progressives Congress (APC) has kicked against the decision of Adamawa State Government under the leadership of Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fingiri who sworn-in 21 Local Government caretakers to man the affairs of the councils for the next three months before election be conducted by state’s electoral body (ADSIEC)
The APC through its organizing Secretary, Mustapha Atiku Ribadu said the Governor has committed an impeachment offense and renegade the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to nothing less.
While referring to a previous judgment gave by Justice Bamari Bamsi, Ribadu said there is nothing in the Constitution of Nigeria of Local government caretakers to be sworn in to take charge of councils affairs even if it’s for a day.
According to him, there is no written law or doctrine of necessity in this country that made that provision hence the decision of the Adamawa state government is tantamount to the illegality of the highest order.
He, therefore, said the impeachment offense Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri committed they will certainly sort it out in court as good citizens and a party whose interest is for the people of Adamawa state
Atiku unleashed the views of the party while a guest during a political radio Hausa program (Alura da Zare) of Pulaku Radio in Yola said APC is condemning the recent developments and considered it a policy that is an anti-Adamawa people.
APC frowned that Ahmadu took the issue with laxity to break the law, toying with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria at will it is something the party decided to fight it up to the supreme court for the right thing to be done.
The APC organizing Secretary said that the illegality is unpardonable and anybody under such an oath taken as a chairman with a good conscience will not allow himself to be used against the Constitution.
He called on them to resign as the oath taken is not in tandem with the democratic and constitutional provision of the country.
Ribadu said APC will sue them to court until the right thing is done according to the Constitution.
“what we are going to do is even in the interest of the government and the people of Adamawa state, calling their attention to understand the gravity of the huge offense, depriving the rights of many people.
“It’s deprivation of rights and a Democratic fraud committed in a broad daylight, and we can never accept this right infringement.
” We are all set to go to court, and let the law decide the fate of many Adamawa people in this regard, it’s our right as a party, and doing what is right within the purview of the law is what we are standing for. we don’t care how long the case will tarry or who the judgement will favor, is left to the judiciary to do what is right.
“We are doing what is the interest of Adamawa and Nigeria, what the Governor did is illegal and any lover of democracy should frown at this unwelcome decision of the government.
” The past government of Senator Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow refused to do this kind of illegality because is not constitutional binding, but this government because of their primordial sentiments of favoring some of his political loyalists decided to violate the law, this is what I don’t think we will sit down and watch them doing what is wrong.
“In the three tiers of government we have, I mean the federal, state, and local governments. These are tiers with full independence and separation of powers. Did you ever hear of a caretaker President or Governor in Nigeria? It’s something very impossible. Then in Adamawa why must there be a caretaker local government chairman?” Atiku asked
He drew the attention of the people to understand that APC is after doing the right thing by the government of the day, and violation of people’s rights of this magnitude should not be condoned.
“Both PDP and APC have people who are aspiring to be either chairmen or councilors but with this development, their rights, zeal, and motivation have been dampened.
” The Governor just appointed stooges who will just be saying yes Sir for his political reasons that are not in the interest of the state that is why APC is kicking against it with all seriousness.
“Let it be known to all that the imposition that happened in the last local government election of 2019 when all the 21 local governments were just appointed, and the election was not properly done. This time around we are battle-ready for the election and we expect the Governor to allow free and fair conduct of the election and its process to take its full course.
” We are taking this issue up to Supreme Court where we know they can’t jettison legality in favor of illegality. There is no Court in Nigeria that is bigger than Supreme Court and there is no Court in the country that will undermine the judgment of Justice Bamari Bamsi” Atiku said
