Madagali: Adamawa communities at risk of flood over collapsed bridges, damaged drainages

….calls on Sons and Daughters, NGOs of concerned minds to save the situation

This year’s rainy season again came with its devastating floods effects in many parts of Adamawa State, communities in Madagali Local Government areas of the State are not left out from this avoidable disaster.

Wurogayandi bridge is on the verge of breaking down and once it collapses many communities will be ravaged, and many spartan agricultural farming areas will be halted down, said Emmanuel Tsamdu, an elder statesman of the area.

There is a serious scourging effect on the people of Shuwa, Gulak, and those sharing borders with Borno state are passing through because of inaccessibility of the only bridge linking the entire Madagali Local Government and Borno state.

The risk-prone areas of Shuwa Gari, Angwan Sarki, Lumadu Sama, Lumadu Kasa, Duhu Gari, Kwambula Wurogayandi, Kopa, those in Pallam road, Mayowandu, and many others may suffer the serious backlash from economic activities if the bridge and drainages linking the communities are not fixed.

A Stakeholder and a former Lawmaker to have represented Madagali Constituency in the Adamawa State Assembly, Hon Emmanuel Tsamdu made a lamentable cry out that the areas are facing a serial yearly flood disaster.

He revealed Pallam, his home town is a no-go area because the bridge has collapsed with no hope of fixing it because all cries seem to fall on deaf ears.

Tsamdu however called on Sons and Daughters including Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) of concerned minds to come together to rescue the situation because help is not coming from the intended place of thinking.

“I’m telling you that Pallam has been cut off from normal life, our people can’t access other communities. As I’m talking to you the bridge close to Shuwa is on the verge of collapse. We don’t have a government that can listen to our cries.” Emmanuel said

According to Tsamdu Governor in his three years of resumption in office has done nothing for the people of Madagali except the construction of a road leading to his house and his uncle’s house.

“Any other construction you see in Madagali is an intervention project by the federal government, no state resources are being used to the development of the area. May be waiting for another intervention program to rescue our people, I fear before then we will all be ravaged by floods.”. He said

Mamza Idi a resident of Gulak said it’s disappointing and a shame that the government of the day is not paying attention to the precarious needs of the people.

According to him the sole responsibility of the government is to handle this type of problem more so that the area is a revenue-generating zone because of the high production of farming inputs every year.

He blamed Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for not being proactive, most especially to his community and many areas of the state.

“We have been making countless calls, reaching out to the government of the day but our cries are not being heard over this problem we are facing.

” It might surprise you this is the governor’s local government, is more of his home town, a place he supposes to pride himself that he has achieved something good. But what are we seeing? Negligence and less attention are what we get.” Idi said

Idi recalled that last year the entire Madagali local government experienced the same problem, and tabled the same complaint to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri but nothing was tangibly done.

He said four bridges are damaged and there is nothing much the Government of Adamawa state is doing to rescue the situation.

You will also recall that this medium reported that economic activities in Governor Fintiri’s communities have been caged down because of a collapsed bridge linking Borno state.

This medium have however gathered that few days ago Governor Ahmadu have mobilized state agency to go for the rescue mission of fixing the Bridges.

Hope is rekindled to the people that they can access their farms and their socioeconomic life will be back on track.
