Maiden Edition Kaduna Metropolitan Tertiary Institutions Sports Festival Begins

The maiden edition of the Kaduna Metropolitan Tertiary Institutions Sports Festival has been flagged of at the Greenfield University City Campus, Kudenda on Thursday, November 3, 2022.

Four institutions, Kaduna State University (KASU), Air Force Institute’s if Technology, Kaduna Polytechnic and hosts, Greenfield University are the participants at the festival.

In his welcome remarks, Pro Chancellor of Greenfield University, Engr. Simon Nwakacha said that sports play a key role in every society, which include conflict resolution and peace building.

“This informed the university to host the sports festival. In fact, studies by the United States and 85% of developed countries either use or plan to use sports in national strategies for conflict resolution or peace building.

“In addition, sports builds tolerance, understanding and respect for one another. More so, sports is now used by
nations and stakeholders to bring people together because of the love people have for sports,” Sports can be described therefore as a Unifier. he said.

According to him, “One important vision of Greenfield University is youth development through sports.
This can be seen by the good number of excellent sports facilities available in our City Campus.
Sports help to promote good behaviour in young people. It can help to reduce involvement of students in all types of vices currently bedeviling the society.

This is the spirit behind the hosting
of this maiden edition,” he said.

Engineer Nwakacha therefore, on behalf of the students, staff and management of Greenfield University, welcomed all to the Maiden Edition of the Kaduna Metropolitan Tertiary Institutions Sports Festival, which he said, starts on November 3, 2022 at Greenfield University, Kudenda Kaduna. Sports to be competed for include.
Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Beach Soccer,
Table tennis and Swimming .
He therefore, used the opportunity to enjoin the participants and officials to compete honourable and go for the mastery, looking forward to the mark of higher performance, with spirit of sportsmanship.

“I also want to appreciate all those who tirelessly, day and night saw
to it that this maiden edition becomes a reality.

“I say thank you. To the local organising committee, headed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Simon Daniel Katung and his team, I say a very big thank you and well-done. To our visitors. I say welcome. Permit me to declare the competition open. Let the show begin. Thank You,” he said.

The three-day sporting fiesta which began on Thursday November 3 at the Greenfield University City Campus. No 2, Umueri Road, Kudenda, Kaduna, would be ending on Saturday November 5, with a colourful presentation to winners in all categories.
