Makinde Officially Joins 2027 Presidential Race, Unveils PDP-APM Alliance Under ‘Reset Nigeria Movement’

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Thursday formally declared his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election, announcing a major political alliance aimed at challenging the current political order.

Makinde made the declaration during a grand rally at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where he unveiled a strategic partnership between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The governor branded the alliance the “Reset Nigeria Movement,” positioning it as a platform to address the country’s pressing socioeconomic and political challenges and prevent what he described as an alleged plot to impose a one-party system on Nigeria.

In his declaration speech, Makinde stated: “Therefore, today, I Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, FNSE, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He urged Nigerians to actively participate in shaping the nation’s future rather than remaining passive observers.

“This is the time to confront our fears. Do not be afraid,” Makinde said, calling for collective engagement in tackling development issues.

The move marks a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As a sitting governor and engineer by profession, Makinde is one of the prominent figures within the PDP who has maintained relative stability in Oyo State while building a national profile.
