In a bid to protect its livestock and boost the economy, the Adamawa State Government has launched a massive vaccination campaign, targeting 3.5 million animals against various diseases. The campaign, which was flagged off by the state government, aims to vaccinate 2 million cattle against Harmorrhagic Septicaemia, Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia, and Foot and Mouth Disease, while 1.5 million sheep and goats will be vaccinated against Small Ruminants Plagues diseases.
According to the Commissioner of Livestock and Aquaculture Development, Alhaji Tijjani Atiku Maksha, the state government has already vaccinated over 5 million animals in the last three years, and this year’s campaign is expected to be the largest yet.
The commissioner also commended the governor for his support in the livestock sector, citing the construction of a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in Jambutu, which is over 80% complete, as well as the establishment of milk collection centers across the state.
The campaign is part of the state government’s efforts to increase the Gross Domestic Income of the state, and it has received commendations from development partners, including the Food and Agriculture Organization, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Multisectoral Crises Recovery Programme, and Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represented by the commissioner, expressed his administration’s continued dedication to investing in the livestock sector, praising the ministry’s role in tackling farmer-herder conflicts and making the livestock sector one of the most vibrant in Adamawa. The ceremony was attended by heads of Fulani communities, councillors, religious leaders, and non-governmental organizations, among others.
