MAU to convocate 12,876 students as Buratai delivers lectures

The immediate past Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai (retd) who is Nigeria’s current ambassador to Benin Republic, has been pencilled down to deliver convocation lecture during the combined 24th, 25th and 26th convocation of Modibbo Adama University (MAU) on Saturday.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Abdullahi Liman Tukur who made the revelation during a press conference heralding the epoch making event, said, no fewer than 12,876 candidates will finish various courses in the institution.

“This year we are to graduate three sets of candidates that completed their academic programs in the last three academic sessions: 2917/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020.

” During the convocation, we shall graduate 12,876 candidates in all. A further breakdown indicates that for Bachelors Degree, we shall award 131 first class, 2,865 second class upper, 7,462 second class lower, 2141 third class and 277 pass degrees.

“While in the categories of higher degrees we shall award 183 Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,373 Masters and 155 Ph.Ds in various disciplines (the certificates of all graduands are ready for collection on the day of convocation).

“We are excited to have as our convocation lecturer this year, a commander in the war front, indefatigable decorated war veteran, His Excellency, Ambassador Tukur Yusuf Buratai, Lieutenant General (Retd) Nigerian Ambassador to Benin Republic, and former Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff.

“General Buratai is an authority on matters relating to security in Nigeria having witnessed the birth and metamorphosis of the Boko Haram sect albeit on the war front among other security threats facing the country. The title of the lecture is ” The Nigerian Front in the War on Terror: Security or Development”. This will be delivered by 3:30pm on Friday 22nd October at the university Multipurpose Hall,” he said.

Tukur noted that no honourary degress will be awarded during the 24th, 25th and 26th convocation ceremony.

While enumerating the successes achieved in the last two years, the VC said during the period under review the institution has witnessed landmark achievements including its conversion to a conventional university from a science based university and the approval given to the university to establish a Medical College to run medical and allied courses.

He also disclosed that all delisted courses in the faculty of social and management sciences including Economics, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Business Administration and Library and information science have been restored.

He appreciated the Buhari led federal government and the Fintiri led state government for all the support given to the university culminating into its conversion to a conventional university.
