MAUTH Yola Partners NIPR to Boost Professionalism in Public Relations, Communication

The Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH), Yola has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Adamawa State Chapter, aimed at strengthening communication skills and professionalism among its staff across all departments.

The Chief Medical Director of MAUTH, Prof. Adamu Bakari Girei, disclosed the partnership on Wednesday while receiving members of the NIPR Adamawa Chapter on a courtesy visit to his office.

Prof. Bakari Girei described the collaboration as timely and essential, noting the hospital’s daily interactions with thousands of patients, caregivers, and stakeholders.

“Capacity building in public relations and communication is vital for all staff, regardless of their professional background,” he said.

The CMD commended the NIPR for its role in projecting a positive image of Nigeria both domestically and internationally. He also expressed appreciation to stakeholders for creating an enabling environment that has supported the hospital’s growth.

Prof. Bakari Girei further lauded his predecessors for laying a strong foundation in infrastructure and human resources, which has enabled MAUTH to compete favourably with older teaching hospitals in service delivery.

He directed all staff who are yet to complete their registration with the NIPR to do so immediately and pledged the hospital’s full support for the institute’s programmes and activities.

In his remarks, the Chairman of NIPR Adamawa State Chapter, Usman Ahmad Dadah, congratulated Prof. Bakari Girei on the remarkable transformation and development witnessed at MAUTH, describing the hospital as having attained an enviable status in clinical services and human resource development.

Mr. Dadah outlined plans to train and retrain MAUTH staff in key areas including strategic health communication, crisis and rumour management, patient relations, empathy communication, and digital reputation management.

He thanked the CMD for directing staff to fast-track their membership registration with the institute and warned that NIPR would soon begin enforcing the display of valid registration licences.

He added that organisations in the state engaging unregistered public relations practitioners would face appropriate sanctions.

The visiting NIPR team was later conducted on a facility tour of the hospital by the Director of Information, Dr. Adamu Muhammad Dodo.
