The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has donated N20 million to victims of the recent flood disaster in Gumi town, Zamfara State. The flood, which occurred last Friday, destroyed houses, animals, foodstuffs, and farmlands due to heavy downpour in the area.
Matawalle’s donation and message of commiseration were delivered through a 21-man delegation led by the state APC Chairman, Hon. Tukur Umar Danfulani. The Minister urged the victims to consider their plight as an act of God and expressed his commitment to alleviating their sufferings.
The delegation presented the N20 million cash to the Emir of Gumi, Justice Lawal Hassan Gummi (rtd), at the Emir’s palace for onward delivery to the flood-affected persons.
The Emir expressed appreciation for the timely donation, stating it would give the people a sense of belonging, cushion the effect of the disaster, and help them resettle.
The Emir assured that the donation would be distributed immediately to achieve its purpose. The Minister’s donation is seen as a swift response to the plight of the flood victims, and his appeal for support from wealthy individuals is expected to encourage others to contribute to the relief efforts.
