Senator Cliff Ishaku Abbo during a Senate session of Monday Plenary which was purposed to screen minister nominees, asked why the railway lines to Maiduguri were not extended to Mubi despite its economy potentials of the biggest Cow market in the whole of west Africa and the second largest economy after Kano in Northern Nigeria.
Abbo who was questioning the Lagos state Minister nominee,Former Governor Babaraji Fashola,the former minister of works and Housing under President Muhammadu Buhari led administration.
The Senator representing Adamawa Northern Senatorial zone also lamented the negligence of the federal government of failing to reinstate Michika/Madagali national grid,has according to him the people are still using candles at this 21st century,suffering from the devastating effects of Boko Haram attacks who have destroyed the electricity appliances of the area since 2013.
“After the Boko Haram attacks in 2013 the People of Michika and Madagali are been cut off from the national grid, are still using candles in this 21st century. What are your plans sir to this ?” Abbo asked
The Young Senator also asked the minister nominee his plans of reconstructing the blown off major bridge linking Michika/Madagali to Yola,the state capital which was said to have been awarded for construction in 2016 but nothing is happening.
Responding to questions raised by Cliff, Fashola emphasised the rebuilding of Madagali and Michika is the work of all stakeholders in the country.
He said the area is an example for the government to use as a rebuilding mechanism as result of the bedevilling effects of war.
Fashola said though is not directly in charge of the railway lines construction but under ministry of transport, he recalled that the then minister complain of the capital intensive of the work down to Mubi couple with the security challenges are some of the reason of the non performance of the work.
