In its quest to encourage child birth spacing, The Adamawa state Ministry of Health in collaboration with the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Monday observed week with a flagged off second phase of the birth spacing and child health campaign.
The event was held at Major Aminu Health centre Doubeli, Jimeta, Yola. Launching the programme, the State commissioner of health, Dr. Fatima Atiku Abubakar said the Maternal and Child week was set aside for mothers to know the importance of proper child birth spacing of children.
According to her the intervention is free as federal government has introduced the scheme for the benefit of mothers and children. Speaking at the event, the District head of Jimeta, who is also DAN- Isah Adamawa, Alhaji Inuwa Baba Paris enjoins husbands to allow their wives to embrace the scheme and called on the mothers to observe personal hygiene to protect themselves against communicable diseases.
Representative of UNICEF and World Health Organization, promise to support the programme. Earlier, the Executive Secretary, Adamawa state Primary Health care Development Agency, Dr. Abdullahi Dauda BELEL, represented by the Director, Planning of the agency, Dr. Paul Marguwa said the campaign is annually held to remind mothers of the benefit in child birth spacing.
