A heavy downpour in the early hours of Monday 18th Sept. 2023 has wreaked havoc at Modire, a suburb of Yola, the state capital of Adamawa.

Sahel Reporters Correspondent reports that the residents were nearly cut off with the state capital for their day to day activities as the only bridge leading to the area was flooded while many houses were submerged.

In an interview, Mal. Tanimu Umar Danladi, the representative of the ward head in the area, called on governments to come to their aid by constructing stormwater drainages.

On their part while speaking separately, Barr. Y.A Mbar and Mal. Yahaya Umar said “we are submerged and could not go to office on time as the only road and bridge have been over powered by flood.”

When contacted on the matter, the permanent secretary Min. Of Works and energy development Alh. Suleiman Muhammad said government is working round the clock to ensure not only people of Modire but all other areas concerned receive the desired attention.

He called on those living along flood prone areas to relocate to safer areas.
