The case is under preliminary investigation at the Trans Ekulu Division, with plans to transfer it to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough probe

Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless bodies of the two children, bearing marks of violence suspected to have been inflicted with a sharp object. The scene was immediately secured, and forensic photographs were taken before Chidima Arinze, the mother and prime suspect, was arrested without resistance.

The children’s remains were transported to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUT), Parklane, where a medical officer confirmed their deaths. The bodies are now in the hospital morgue, awaiting autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.

The case is under preliminary investigation at the Trans Ekulu Division, with plans to transfer it to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough probe. While the police have not yet established a definitive motive, community members speculate that Chidima may have been grappling with a postpartum mental health crisis, though this awaits confirmation through psychological evaluation.

This is beyond comprehension for our community. She seemed quiet, normal. We never imagined she was struggling to this extent

Neighbors described the suspect as a reserved individual, with no prior indications of distress or violent behavior. “This is beyond comprehension for our community,” said a neighbor, who preferred anonymity. “She seemed quiet, normal. We never imagined she was struggling to this extent.”

The Enugu State Police Command has vowed to handle the case with diligence and sensitivity, acknowledging its emotional toll. “We are committed to a thorough investigation, exploring all possible factors, including the suspect’s mental state,” a senior police official stated. The Trans Ekulu community is reeling from the loss of two innocent lives, with residents grappling with shock and grief.

“This is a tragedy that leaves no one untouched,” another neighbor lamented. “Those children deserved better, and now a family is broken.” As investigations continue, authorities urge the public to refrain from speculation and support efforts to uncover the truth behind this heartbreaking incident.
