Following what it termed rampant and unabated killings of Christians in Nigeria, the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), has declared a three day fasting and prayer session from Monday Jan 27, to Wednesday Jan 29.
Making the declaration today in Yola, Adamawa State CAN chairman, Rev Dami Mamza said, the move is the only option left to the Christian community in view of the glaring failure of the Federal Government to protect lives of Christians in the state and other parts of the country.
Mamza noted that in the fast few years, thousands of Nigerian Christians have been massacred in cold blood without the government taking the necessary measures to stop the carnage let alone bring perpetrators to justice.
The chairman enjoined all Christians in the 21 local governments of the state to participate fully in the prayer and fasting session as it is the only way out for them.
Mamza noted that Christians in the state are particularly saddened by the recent killing of two senior clergies last Monday.
It may be recalled that the CAN chairman of Michika local government area of Adamawa State, Rev Lawal Indimi was beheaded on Monday after Boko Haram insurgents abducted him earlier in the month.
Rev Mamza noted that the insurgents took the dastardly measure despite the offer of the whopping sum of N50 million to the dreaded group in lieu of the freedom of the clergy man.
It may also be recalled that another clergyman, Rev Denis Bagauri was murdered by unknown gunmen in his residence at Mayo Belwa of Adamawa State following a botched attempt to kidnap him.
Kidnapping for ransom and violent insurrection by Boko Haram insurgents have become serious security concerns making residents to sleep with their two eyes open.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has while condoling the Christian community today pledged his government readiness to tackle the twin evil of Boko Haram insurgency and kidnapping for ransom in the state.
Since his election, the governor has made strenuous efforts in arresting the security drift in the state including fighting the menace of the dreaded group of outlaws also known as Shilla boys terrorising the state capital.
The governor has also bought 60 patrol vans and 50 motorcycles which where distributed to security formations and local vigilante operatives as well as giving out incentives to local vigilante operatives in order to address the menace of insecurity across the state.
