Economic and Financial Crimes Commission says it will appeal the ruling of Justice C.L Dabup of the Plateau State High Court discharging and acquitting former Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang, and a former cashier in the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Yusuf Pam.
EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said that the commission had begun the process for an appeal with immediate effect in the alleged fraud case against the two former public officials.
Earlier on Friday, ex-governor Jang and the former cashier were discharged and acquitted by the Plateau State High Court sitting in Jos over a 17-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and misappropriation of Plateau State funds to the tune of N6.3 billion.
Among the charges were the alleged diversion of N2 billion provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria for empowering youths and women on small and medium scale enterprises and misappropriation/diversion of funds meant for the State Universal basic education.
The court had quashed all the charges brought by the EFCC against the former governor and the government cashier, saying that they lacked merit.
