NADF Begins Free Fertilizer Distribution to Over 128,000 Farmers Nationwide

The National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) has commenced the distribution of free fertilizers and agrochemicals to smallholder farmers across Nigeria under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Farm Inputs Support Programme (FISP), a major intervention aimed at enhancing food production and strengthening agricultural productivity nationwide.

According to the NADF, the programme is expected to benefit approximately 128,930 farmers in 25 states, providing critical farm inputs to support cultivation during the current farming season.

The agency disclosed that zonal distribution of the inputs has already commenced in several parts of the country, with the South-West zone recording significant progress. A total of 20,160 farmers in the region have reportedly received 80,640 bags of fertilizer as part of the first phase of the exercise.

In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), thousands of farmers are scheduled to receive fertilizers and agrochemicals as the programme expands to the nation’s capital.

The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s broader agricultural development strategy aimed at improving food security, reducing production costs for farmers, and increasing yields across key agricultural value chains.

NADF stated that the intervention is specifically targeted at smallholder farmers, who constitute a significant proportion of Nigeria’s agricultural workforce and play a crucial role in the country’s food production system.

The Fund noted that all fertilizers being distributed under the programme are locally produced, a move designed to support domestic manufacturing while ensuring the timely availability of inputs to farmers.

To prevent diversion and unauthorized sale, the fertilizer bags have been clearly branded with the inscription “Not For Sale,” while monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to ensure that the products reach the intended beneficiaries.

Agricultural stakeholders have welcomed the intervention, describing it as a timely boost for farmers grappling with rising production costs, including the high prices of fertilizers and other agricultural inputs.

Experts say improved access to quality fertilizers and agrochemicals could significantly enhance crop yields, increase farm incomes, and contribute to the Federal Government’s efforts to address food inflation and strengthen national food security.

The Renewed Hope Farm Inputs Support Programme is one of several agricultural initiatives being implemented to support farmers, improve productivity, and stimulate growth within the agricultural sector as the country seeks to achieve sustainable food sufficiency.

Officials of the National Agricultural Development Fund expressed optimism that the programme would deliver tangible benefits to farmers across the participating states and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s agricultural transformation agenda.
