NAFDAC Issues Alert on Recalled Indomie Noodles

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a public alert regarding the recall of Indomie Noodles Vegetable Flavour by health authorities in France. The recall, announced today, is due to the presence of undeclared allergens, specifically milk and eggs, which could pose serious health risks to consumers with allergies or intolerances.

In a press release, NAFDAC clarified that the recalled product does not originate from Nigeria and is not registered with the agency. This means the noodles were not produced locally under NAFDAC’s strict regulatory standards.

The agency emphasized that, due to a ban on noodle imports by the Nigerian government, the risk of these products entering the country is low. However, NAFDAC has activated nationwide surveillance to prevent any illegal entry or circulation of the affected product.

NAFDAC’s Director-General, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, assured the public that the agency is committed to ensuring food safety. The agency has instructed its zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify monitoring and seize any recalled products found in the market.

Consumers are advised to remain vigilant and avoid purchasing the implicated Indomie brand from unofficial sources.

This is not the first time Indomie noodles have faced scrutiny. In 2023, the product was recalled in Malaysia and Taiwan due to the presence of ethylene oxide, a carcinogenic compound. NAFDAC continues to work on maintaining high safety standards for food products available in Nigeria.
