Naira scarcity: Nigerians not complaining, Mr. P tells APC give

Peter Okoye, better known as Mr. P, a well-known Nigerian singer and internet personality, has criticized governors of the ruling All Progressive Congress for asking the Supreme Court to declare President Muhammadu Buhari’s order on the naira swap unconstitutional.

Recall that President Buhari on February 9, 2023, instructed the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to only reissue old notes valued at N200.

This came after the Supreme Court’s asked that the old N200, N500, and N1000 notes remain legal pending the determination of a case brought to it by some APC governors.

Some APC governors have issued contradictory instructions to residents of their state, telling them to continue taking the outdated N500 and N1000 notes, in response to the president’s mandate.

On February 20, 2023, the father of two responded to this by accusing the governors of engaging in this conflict for their own self-serving goals and agendas in a series of posts on his Twitter account.

“Dear APC Governors, We, the Nigerian people, are not complaining about the policy. As a matter of fact, we are so used to the hardship APC has brought upon us. We actually stand with Buhari and Emefiele on this one. We still have N50, N100 and N200 Notes in circulation, Desperados.

“If the APC Governors fight other issues the way they fight this naira policy, Nigeria would’ve been a better place. Dear Nigerians, don’t be deceived. They are fighting for their own selfish reason and agenda.

“APC Governors should stop using “Poor masses” as an excuse and tell President Buhari the truth that they stashed money in higher denominations and they will turn to tissue papers if he insists on this policy.” he wrote.
