The National Association of Women in Colleges of Education (WICE) has commenced its 28th National Conference and 8th Workshop at the Federal College of Education, Yola. Prof. Benson Yusuf Baha, Provost of Adamawa State College of Education, Hong, chaired the opening ceremony, welcoming participants to the beautiful city of Yola.

This year’s conference theme, “Political Ideology and National Economy: The Quest for Sustainable Development in Nigeria,” addresses the pressing issues of poverty, inflation, and economic growth in Nigeria. According to Egwim’s 2023 view, ideology plays a crucial role in shaping economic systems and government policies.
Prof. Baha emphasized that the ideological positions of ruling governments significantly influence national economic institutions and growth. He noted that successive governments’ lack of policy sustainability has hindered long-term economic success.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration has demonstrated commitment to women’s empowerment, with three female commissioners out of 25 and female vice chairpersons in all 21 local government areas.
The conference seeks to inspire more women to take on leadership roles, contributing to Nigeria’s sustainable development. As the conference progresses, participants will engage in discussions and workshops focused on achieving this objective, ultimately contributing to Nigeria’s national development.
Prof. Baha expressed his optimism about the conference’s outcomes, wishing participants a productive and enriching experience in Yola. The conference is expected to yield meaningful recommendations for promoting women’s empowerment and sustainable development in Nigeria.
