The Benue State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made some impressive strides in the fight against drug abuse, with a total of 251 suspects arrested in 2024.

According to State Commander Mrs. Esther Musa, the breakdown of the arrests shows that 220 of the suspects were male, while 31 were female. But that’s not all – the command also reported some significant seizures, including a whopping one ton of cannabis sativa, 43 kg of Tramadol, and other illicit substances like Fitamin, Diazopharm, and Codeine syrup.

The agency conducted 142 sensitization programs, mainly in schools and worship centers

The NDLEA operatives also recovered some serious firepower, including locally made pistols, ammunition, and explosives, which were handed over to the army and police. Musa emphasized the importance of the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaign, which aims to educate the public about the dangers of drug abuse, trafficking, and cultivation. In 2024, the agency conducted 142 sensitization programs, mainly in schools and worship centers, and engaged law enforcement agencies, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders in drug awareness campaigns.

Musa’s message to young people is clear: steer clear of drug abuse, as it poses serious risks to their health and future potential. She also appealed to the Benue State Government, NGOs, and well-meaning Nigerians to help establish a standard rehabilitation center, as the current facility is inadequate, particularly for female clients.
