Connected Development, an NGO has urged government to consider community participation in project execution.
Mr Busayo Morakinyo, Coordinator for ‘Follow the money ‘ project of the NGO gave the advice on Thursday at a one day sensitisation workshop in Yola.
Morakinyo stressed the need for community involvement and participation in the execution of projects within their communities.
He said that such would ensure efficient execution and implementation of such projects.
He said that lack of projects execution monitoring by communities had caused non implementation as well as non completion of such projects.
He also noted that lack of follow up for such projects lead to either low quality execution as well as diversion of such projects to other locations.
Morakinyo advised the public to pick up the courage to monitor budgetary provisions and ask questions.
He noted that the government at the centre could assumed it has provided dividends of democracy, regretting that communities had been short changed in the area of project implementation.
He said that the Connected development had taken up some cases and succeeded in retracing cases of injustice.
He also urged government at all levels to consider community participation and involvement from the designing and the implementation of projects within their domain.
According to him, community participation in project execution would give benefiting communities the sense of belonging and then engender safeguarding of the project.
In his remark, Bishop Steven Amfani, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese in Yola commended the NGO for the sensitisation.
Amfani said that community participation in projects allocated to communities would go along way in achieving the desired goals for the location of such projects.
