Nigerian Navy Destroys Illegal Refining Sites in Rivers

The Nigerian Navy has foiled attempts to revive illegal crude oil refining operations in Rivers State following a successful anti-crude oil theft operation conducted by troops of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) PATHFINDER under Operation Delta Sentinel.

The operation, carried out at Oseokishikpa in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area, was based on credible intelligence indicating renewed illegal refining activities in the area.

According to the Nigerian Navy, personnel deployed for the operation uncovered two illegal refining sites containing eight dugout pits and reservoirs. The facilities were found to be holding approximately 15,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil and 105,000 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), commonly known as diesel.

The Navy stated that the illegal refining sites and products were handled in accordance with extant operational procedures.

The latest operation underscores the Nigerian Navy’s sustained efforts to combat crude oil theft, illegal refining, and other economic sabotage activities in the Niger Delta region.

The service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the nation’s critical oil and gas infrastructure, safeguarding national assets, and supporting efforts aimed at boosting Nigeria’s economic growth through the protection of petroleum resources.
