Reactions are trailing yet to be confirmed report of the death of Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau.
Shekau, the leader of a faction of Boko Haram known as JAS was reportedly killed on Wednesday by another faction of the terrorist group, Islamic State in West Africa Province.
According to sources monitoring info from Sambisa Forest, “#JAS leader, Shekau was killed in the attack by ISWAP.”
Nigerian Army has claimed to have killed Shekau on several occasions in the past only for the Boko Haram leader to resurface in video days after. Hence, many are doubting the authenticity of the news of the death of the Boko Haram leader.
Below are what Nigerians on Twitter are saying:
@AustinNwabufo “If Shekau is actually dead Glory be to God, and if IBB is still mentally fit and available, we need his wisdom to tackle ISWAP frontally and decisively, May God help NIGERIA and bring Peace and succour, Amen.”
@ayemojubar “Intelligence sources have confirmed that Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau is finally dead. This was following the ISWAP attack on Sambisa fortress of Shekau led by ISWAP commander, Baana Duguri. Shekau was said to have blown himself to avoid being captured alive.”
@OgbeniDipo “Abubakar Shekau has reportedly been killed like 4 times before. We want to see his dead body, before he wakes up and makes a crazy video taunting the country and our Army again in 2 weeks. If indeed he is dead, may his soul rot in hell.”
@Mister_Mash “Shekau has been ‘killed’ too many times for me to just believe an unconfirmed report. When it is confirmed, I’d celebrate to the high heavens until then I’d hold on to the hope that he is mortal and would die someday.”
@Vamsdutch “Shekau is dead, but the name doesn’t die because another leader would come up and take up his space and keeps his name…and they don’t change name so the terrorist group doesn’t look weak”
@Xpsilver1 “ISWAP fighters stormed Sambisa forest, dislodged Boko Haram, forced them to surrender or be killed. Abubakar Shekau whereabouts are still unknown. ISWAP is more deadly than Boko Haram. No wonder Nigeria military all ran away from North to the East. “
@DejiAdesogan “The End of Era. He who lives by the sword dies by the sword. May His wicked soul rot in the deepest part of hell. Meanwhile the fierce battle has just begun… #SheKau”
@Malan_Baffa “While we can celebrate the possible killing of Shekau today, we should know that ISWAP had been the real enemy bringing it to our soldiers. They are better trained and much more professional than BH. But they are not as terrible towards civilians as BH have been.”
@Barcaprincipal “Believe the death of Shekau at your own detriment. This should be the 3rd or 4th time the Nigerian Army has killed Shekau. I guess he has multiple lives. Yeye people”
@iamNgentillity “They say you are dead. Rest in pieces! If you come back again, God punish you! Shekau”
