Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Education Launches 7-Member Anti-Bullying Committee to Safeguard Students

In a significant move to enhance student welfare and promote a safe learning environment, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) in Nigeria has established a 7-member committee dedicated to combating bullying in schools across the nation.

This announcement was made through a press release dated 17th February 2025, from the Office of Director Press and Public Relations of the FME.

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olaiunji Alausa, underscored the urgency of implementing effective interventions to address bullying, highlighting the severe psychological impact it has on students.

The newly formed committee’s mandate includes reviewing reported bullying cases, ensuring swift action, and reinforcing the efforts of the existing 21-member team already working on a National Policy on Anti-Bullying.

To facilitate confidential reporting, the Ministry has introduced multiple channels for students, parents, and educators to report incidents. These include a dedicated hotline (09012660044), an email address (antibullying@education.gov.ng), and a WhatsApp contact (08052536133).

Dr. Alausa reiterated the Ministry’s zero-tolerance stance on bullying, calling upon school administrators, teachers, parents, and students to actively support this initiative. This effort aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes education as a pivotal driver of national development.
