Nigeria’s national grid experienced its sixth collapse in 2024, resulting in a nationwide blackout on October 14, 2024, according to the Nigeria National Grid on Twitter. The collapse occurred at 18:48 hours.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) attributed the collapse to a “system disturbance” at one of the transmission stations. The grid was partially restored.
This incident marks the seventh grid collapse in 2024, with previous collapses occurring in February, March, April, July, and August. The frequent grid failures have sparked concerns about the reliability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
