In a groundbreaking development poised to transform urological care in North-Eastern Nigeria, Bell Dome Specialist Hospital Yola is set to commission a state-of-the-art Laser Lithotripsy Unit, bringing advanced, minimally invasive kidney stone treatment to the region for the first time.

The announcement was made by the hospital’s Proprietor and Managing Director, Dr. Abdullahi Dauda Belel, who confirmed that the sophisticated laser machine has already arrived in Yola and will commence operations immediately upon commissioning.
“This is a game-changer for our people,” Dr. Belel stated. “Patients will no longer need to endure the stress, expense, and risks of repeated trips to Abuja or beyond for kidney, ureter, or bladder stone treatment. With this new laser technology right here in Yola, we are bringing world-class care closer to home.”
The hospital has completed preparations for seamless operations. In addition to the advanced laser lithotripsy machine, Bell Dome Specialist Hospital has already acquired and installed complementary high-precision equipment, including: A modern C-Arm imaging system; Rigid and Flexible Olympus Cystoscopes; Olympus Ureteroscopes; Other supporting instruments required for comprehensive endourological procedures
Laser Lithotripsy is widely regarded as the gold standard for stone management. It uses highly focused laser energy to precisely fragment stones into dust or tiny pieces that can be easily passed naturally or removed, offering faster recovery times, minimal discomfort, shorter hospital stays, and significantly reduced risk of complications compared to traditional open surgery.
For years, residents of Adamawa and neighboring states have faced the burden of traveling long distances for specialized urological care. The commissioning of Bell Dome’s Laser Lithotripsy Unit marks a major milestone in healthcare decentralization and positions Yola as an emerging hub for advanced medical services in the region.
Dr. Belel emphasized the hospital’s commitment to excellence: “At Bell Dome Specialist Hospital, we are dedicated to investing in technology and expertise that directly improve the quality of life of our patients. This unit is not just new equipment — it represents hope, convenience, and world-class healthcare for thousands who previously had limited options.”
The hospital invites the public and medical professionals to the forthcoming commissioning ceremony, which will officially launch the unit and usher in a new era of accessible, high-quality urological care in Yola and beyond.
Bell Dome Specialist Hospital Yola continues to set the benchmark for private specialist healthcare in Northern Nigeria through consistent investment in modern infrastructure and specialist services.
