Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has dismissed claims of any credible threat to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election, asserting that the newly formed opposition coalition lacks the strength to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, June 20, 2025, Sani expressed confidence in Tinubu’s political dominance, stating, “I can tell you today, but go and write it down and remember this day. Asiwaju has no threat.”
Governor Sani was reacting to the emergence of the National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG), led by former Senate President David Mark and supported by prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Despite the coalition’s efforts to unite opposition forces, Sani downplayed its potential, arguing that it does not signal trouble for the APC or Tinubu’s re-election prospects. “Most of the people speaking today, where were they when we were in the trenches fighting for democracy, for justice, for good governance, for the rule of law?
They didn’t know anything about it,” he remarked, questioning the credibility of the coalition’s leaders.
Sani further highlighted the achievements of his administration in Kaduna as a testament to the APC’s governance, stating that he is unafraid of opposition challenges due to tangible progress in the state.
He cited Tinubu’s recent visit to Kaduna, where the President commissioned projects including the Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development in Rigachikun, a 300-bed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital in Millennium City, and 100 CNG buses, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to development.

The governor’s remarks come amid speculations of internal rifts within the APC and growing opposition efforts to unseat Tinubu in 2027.
Notably, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai recently claimed it would be “impossible” for Tinubu to secure re-election, citing public dissatisfaction with the APC’s policies. However, Sani dismissed such criticisms, emphasizing Tinubu’s strong political track record and grassroots support.

The governor challenged coalition members to test their popularity at the polls, stating, “Any politician who feels he is popular or can defeat Bola Ahmed Tinubu or APC—they need to go and work very hard and present themselves in the next election.”
