A Northeast-based socio-political group, the Forum for Northeast Development, has come out in strong support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s new tax reform policies, while condemning Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, and Major Hamza Almustapha, former Chief Security Officer to late former Head of State, Gen Sani Abacha.

The group believes that Tinubu’s reforms will benefit the North in the long run and has urged people from the Northeast and other parts of the North to remain hopeful and have confidence in the Tinubu and Shettima-led administration.
According to the group, some northerners, including Governor Mohammed and Major Almustapha, have been criticizing President Tinubu’s policies, which is unfortunate, given that the President is working hard to restore the economy and indices of growth and development. The group noted that Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima is from the Northeast geopolitical zone and is a trusted individual who will not betray the people of the region.
It’s worth noting that Major Almustapha had claimed that President Tinubu squandered his goodwill with his shambolic performance since assuming office, while Governor Mohammed criticized President Tinubu’s economic reform policies, saying they are putting the North and Nigerians at large under strain
The Forum for Northeast Development also expressed optimism that the tax reform policies and other economic reform policies are geared towards establishing a solid foundation for sustainable development in the region. They condemned the criticisms by Governor Mohammed and Major Almustapha, describing them as unnecessary and a game of playing to the gallery to gain cheap popularity.
It’s worth noting that Major Almustapha had claimed that President Tinubu squandered his goodwill with his shambolic performance since assuming office, while Governor Mohammed criticized President Tinubu’s economic reform policies, saying they are putting the North and Nigerians at large under strain. However, the group believes that President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima are focused and committed individuals who are passionate about good governance and selfless service to humanity.
It remains to be seen how this will play out in the lead-up to the 2027 elections
The group’s support for President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima is a significant development, especially given the criticism they have faced from some northerners. It remains to be seen how this will play out in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
