Northern Governors, Traditional Rulers Convene Emergency Security Summit in Kaduna

Amid growing concerns over insecurity across Northern Nigeria, governors from the region and influential traditional rulers on Wednesday gathered in Kaduna for an emergency security meeting aimed at finding lasting solutions to the challenges confronting the region.

The extraordinary session, hosted by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, is being held at the historic Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, the Kaduna State Government House, and brings together key stakeholders from across the North.

The meeting is jointly convened by the Northern States Governors’ Forum and Northern traditional institutions, with the gathering chaired by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, who serves as Chairman of the Governors’ Forum. Leading the delegation of traditional rulers is the Sultan of Sokoto, one of the region’s most respected royal fathers.

The high-level security summit has attracted top federal security representatives, including officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Ministry of Defence, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Department of State Services (DSS).

Also participating are several eminent Northern figures, among them former Inspectors-General of Police, retired senior military officers, ex-police and paramilitary commanders, and former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation.

The gathering comes at a critical time as states across Northern Nigeria continue to grapple with security threats ranging from banditry and kidnapping to terrorism, communal conflicts, and other criminal activities that have affected communities and economic activities.

Sources at the meeting said discussions are focused on strengthening collaboration among state governments, traditional institutions, security agencies, and community leaders to improve intelligence gathering and enhance the effectiveness of ongoing security operations.

The inclusion of retired security chiefs and senior statesmen is expected to provide valuable insights and strategic recommendations drawn from decades of experience in national security management.

While details of deliberations are yet to be made public, stakeholders are expected to issue resolutions and recommendations aimed at improving security architecture, protecting lives and property, and fostering stability across Northern Nigeria.

The outcome of the Kaduna summit is being closely watched by citizens and policymakers alike, with many hoping it will produce practical measures capable of tackling the complex security challenges facing the region.
