Northern Nigeria on Brink of Collapse, Arewa Consultative Forum Cries Out

Insecurity is an existential threat to Northerners, according to Alhaji Bashir Muhammad Dalhatu, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).

Dalhatu made this statement during a visit to sympathize with the people of Borno State over the recent Maiduguri flood disaster. He emphasized that insecurity, banditry, and other social vices pose significant threats to the lives and livelihoods of Northern Nigeria residents.

The situation is dire, with insurgency and banditry preventing farmers from accessing their farms, leading to food insecurity. Millions of children are out of school, and begging has become a widespread social ill. Dalhatu warned that if left unchecked, this situation could expand and threaten the very existence of Northern Nigeria.

He noted that over the last decade, actions taken by the government and stakeholders have not alleviated the situation but have instead worsened it. The North West region, in particular, has seen a significant rise in banditry, with most states now experiencing banditry situations.

To address this, the ACF has assembled experts to examine the issues and develop effective solutions. Their findings will be presented to the 19 northern governors, who will then take the concerns to the federal government for immediate action.
