Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s recent response to critics over the creation of new districts and chiefdoms in Adamawa State has been met with widespread outrage and criticism.

According to Umar Ardo, Ph.D., Fintiri’s assertion that the structuring of traditional institutions is “not their business” is not only preposterous but also anti-democratic, as these institutions are public entities funded by taxpayers. This dismissal of legitimate public concerns betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of accountability and democratic governance.

“Fintiri’s claim that the creation of new districts and chiefdoms aims to “cover ungoverned spaces” and bring governance closer to the people has been dubbed dubious, with many believing it to be a calculated ploy to create divisions among the people of Adamawa State.

“By fragmenting communities along tribal or political lines, the governor undermines the unity of the state, sowing seeds of discord that could have long-term consequences.”

By making a big show of establishing new traditional institutions, Fintiri is attempting to create a smokescreen that obscures the real issues affecting Adamawa State.
