A notorious bandit leader, Kachallah Bammi Yarma, has been released from a Niger Republic prison after serving his sentence and has returned to Katsina State, Nigeria.

According to counterterrorism expert Zagazola Makama, Bammi Yarma is one of the deadliest bandits in the region, known for his brutal tactics and leadership in the banditry world. His release has sparked concerns of an escalation in violent attacks across Katsina, Zamfara, and Sokoto states, as top bandit leaders have been welcoming him back with gifts of firearms.

Bammi Yarma was captured in 2015 while smuggling arms on camels in Danmusa, Katsina State, which led to the seizure of 1,000 livestock and the disruption of a key bandit supply chain. His return to Nigeria has raised fears of renewed violence and instability in the region. Intelligence reports suggest that Bammi Yarma’s release could embolden existing bandit networks to escalate their attacks on rural communities, posing a significant threat to the safety and security of innocent civilians.

The Nigerian government and security agencies are urged to take proactive measures to prevent any potential violence and ensure the safety of citizens in the affected regions. The release of Bammi Yarma is a reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by banditry and the need for sustained efforts to address the root causes of this menace.
