The hotel, situated on the busy Onitsha-Owerri expressway, had been the subject of numerous kidnapping incidents in the area, with many victims reportedly being held and tortured within its walls. Security operatives who carried out the demolition reported finding over 30 well-partitioned graves on the last floor of the building, sparking fears about the number of innocent lives lost at the hands of the kidnappers.

The discovery of shrines and graves on the hotel premises suggests a high level of organization and brutality among the kidnappers, who appeared to have been using the hotel as a base for their operations. The demolition of the hotel is a significant blow to the kidnappers and a major victory for security forces in the state.

How many more “hotels of horrors” are out there, and when will they be brought to justice?

The Anambra State homeland security law, which allows for the demolition of buildings used for criminal activities, was invoked in this case, highlighting the state government’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and other forms of crime. The demolition of “La Cruise Hotel” serves as a warning to other criminals and a reassurance to the public that the authorities are taking concrete steps to ensure their safety and security.

The demolition of “La Cruise Hotel” is a significant step in the right direction, but it is clear that more needs to be done to eradicate the scourge of kidnapping and other forms of crime in the state.
