NPC trains Adamawa Journalists on effective Media reporting for 2023 population, Housing Census

A state level capacity building workshop was organized by National population commission (NPC) in Adamawa for Journalists on effective reporting of the 2023 population and Housing census.

The opening remark by the NPC’s Federal Honourable Commissioner, Dr Clifford Zirra Said the media is integral for sensitization of the masses therefore this necessitated the training for Journalists.

The Journalists who over 30 in number were trained at conference hall of Federal Secretariat in Yola on Wednesday.

Zira said the workshop was also meant to create the NPC Adamawa State Population Correspondents’ in preparation for the 2023 population and Housing census with the theme: Getting the people involved.

According to the Federal Commissioner, There is no gainsaying that any Organization that thrives to achieve success must constantly convey information to all it’s stakeholders of which the media is important in order to secure their cooperation and support.

” For a people- oriented Organization such as the NPC , constant and effective engagement with the media is a crucial first step ,it must take in the attainment of it’s constitutional mandate of generating data for national planning”

” With approval by Mr President for the conduct of the next population and Housing census from March 29 to April 2nd 2023 the new date for head counts. preparations are in top gear for the successful implementation of the census projects” he said

He further explained that Census is a national events and is the responsibility of every citizens to participate by presenting themselves to be counted adding that the commission will no doubt need the support of all stakeholders to deliver to the country a credible and reliable data so it can be used for sustainable development planning.

He Said the commission has over the years invested considerable time and resources planning for the census by drawing from its rich institutional experience spanning two census adding that the outcome of the preparatory activities of the 2023 Census and Housing was reassuring.

” Therefore the convening of this training workshop for the NPC Press Corp is one in such engagement and it underscores the determination and commitment of the commission to conduct a successful Population and Housing Census in 2023 by engaging the media to effectively mobilize the citizenry by getting the people involved”

” Over the years , members of the NPC Press Corps have used their various platforms to advance positively the activities of the commission to the world, it is with this understanding that the present commission is convinced that building the capacity of the press corps and deepening your understanding of the census process will no doubt enhance the productivity of individual correspondents in reporting even more positively the activities of the commission to the state before during and after the census” the commissioner said.

Zira Said the overarching goal of this workshop was to share with you the vision of the commission and draw on your support to ensure broad based state cooperation for the implementation of the activities of the NPC especially the coming 2023 census.
