NUC Inspects Kashare Medical Facilities, Approves MBBS Programme

‎A National Universities Commission (NUC) delegation, headed by Acting Director of Academic Planning Mallam Abubakar Muhammad Girei-Abubakar Girei, today carried out an in-depth resource verification at the Jibril Aminu College of Medical Sciences, Federal University of Kashere.

‎The exercise is a cornerstone of the NUC’s rigorous oversight, designed to confirm that universities possess the infrastructure, faculty, and resources needed to deliver world-class medical training before greenlighting new programmes like the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).

‎Welcomed by the university’s top brass, the NUC team was personally escorted by Provost Professor Abubakar A. Bakari on an extensive walkthrough of the college’s impressive setup.

‎Standouts included sleek Anatomy and Physiology labs outfitted with high-tech simulation mannequins and interactive teaching tools; Biomedical Science laboratories brimming with state-of-the-art diagnostic gear for hands-on research; and a well-stocked Medical Library packed with the latest textbooks, peer-reviewed journals, and seamless digital access points.

‎”This isn’t just ticking boxes—it’s about safeguarding the future of medical education in our country,” Girei remarked during the visit, praising the institution’s forward-thinking investments in both facilities and talent.

‎”We’re ensuring every graduate is equipped to meet international benchmarks and tackle real-world health challenges.”

‎For Federal University of Kashere, the inspection represents a major leap in its ambition to emerge as a hub for medical excellence in northern Nigeria.

‎Pending NUC approval, the college could soon welcome its inaugural cohort of medical students, helping to plug critical gaps in the nation’s doctor shortage and enhance access to quality care in underserved regions.

‎University officials expressed optimism, with sources close to the administration noting that the positive feedback could fast-track the programme’s rollout as early as the next academic session. The NUC is expected to release its formal report in the coming weeks.
