The Taraba State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Wednesday inaugurated the Worldview Magazine Chapel, bringing the total number of Chapels in the state to five.
The new chapel that has Mr. Jethro Yerga as pioneer Chairman, was created and inaugurated by the state council following an approval from the National Secretariat of the union after fulfilling all the requirements as enshrined in the Nuj constitution.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony that took place at the conference hall of the Worldview Magazine in Jalingo, the state Chairman of the Union, Mr. David Nya said that the creation of the chapel was a move to further strengthen the media practice and organize journalists in the state under a strong fold for proper administration.
Nya informed the gathering that the union is not leaving any stone unturned to rid the union of quacks in the state and to ensure that journalists are duly protected as well as given the deserved treatment by all sections of the society.
In his address, Editor in Chief of the Magazine, Mr. Williams Ayooso noted that the journey has been both beautiful and ugly with a lot of challenges and great moments that have helped to shape and sharpen the Worldview Magazine to the point of becoming an independent Chapel in Taraba State.
Ayooso also told the gathering that the magazine was established with a vision to “promote a practice direction that will build a hedge of fairness, objectivity and honesty around the society as well as sustain the quality of reportage that will broaden the world views of readers on issues of regional, national and international concern”
According to him, it was also with a mission to “ensure that the voices of the people especially as it relates to their well-being is projected and heard, even as we strive to continually hold the custodian of leadership and Democratic process accountable to their service delivery demands”.
In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the Chapel, Mr. Jethro Yerga assured that his leadership would focus on giving the needed cooperation to the union at both the state and national levels and promised to ensure that highest ethical and professional standards are upheld and respected by members of the chapel at all times.
He appealed to all journalists in the state to regard them as their new baby and give them all the needed cooperation and assistance to enable them succeed at their work both as journalists and as a Chapel.
