NUJ: Padio Phineas emerges new Chairman of Adamawa correspondents’ Chapel

Chairman of Adamawa State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Ishaka Donald Dedan has sworn in new officials of the State’s correspondents Chapel.

Padio Phineas of the Sahara Reporters has emerged as the overall winner with 23 votes to beat down his two opponents, Umar Dan Kano of the People’s Daily polled 13 votes and Daji Sani of Thisday Newspaper polled zero votes respectively after an election was conducted by the electoral committee

Phineas alongside other officials were sworn in by the state chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan and charged them to stick to the constitutional provision guiding the profession.

The inauguration at the chapel office followed the election that saw to the conduct of the freest and fairest correspondents’ election in recent times with the emergence of the new Chairman

The oath of office was administered on the newly elected exco of the correspondent chapel by Dedan with a further call for them to be good ambassadors of NUJ wherever they go.

While congratulating them on their victory, he tasked the officials to eschew any form of differences and conduct themselves thereby, taking the path of unity and peace.

The chairman also lauded members of the pen profession for their disposition and high sense of maturity, encouraging the sworn-in executive to be fair and transparent in discharging their duties.

Comrade Dedan further heaped praises on the electoral committee headed by Hebron Giwa for conducting one of the best elections so far, adjudged as peaceful and transparent.

Phineas while giving his acceptance speech thanked members for their support and cooperation, promising to justify the confidence reposed in him.

He assured of his determination and desire to push for the realization of his manifesto to move the chapel to greatness.

Other stakeholders in the pen profession from the national and state levels including Zare Baba wished the executive well, noting that the exercise has opened a new chapter of understanding and teamwork.

They reminded them that in any contest, there must be a winner and a looser, hence the need to work in unity and ensure professionalism remains the priority.

Earlier, out of 37 members of the correspondent chapel, 36 cast their ballot that saw Phineas Padio as the new Chairman of the correspondents’ chapel in Adamawa state.

Other officials who emerged unopposed include; vice-chairman Ibrahim Kado of the News Agency of Nigeria, secretary Percy Dabang of the Viewer Television, financial secretary was given to Mohammed Auwal of News Agency of Nigeria and Treasurer Amina Abdullahi who is from Daily Trust among others.

They are expected to pilot the affairs of the state chapter of the correspondent chapel for the next three years.
