NYSC Resumes Orientation for Niger Corps Members After Camp Closure, Relocates Exercise to Abuja

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced the resumption of orientation activities for prospective corps members deployed to Niger State, weeks after camping activities were suspended following extensive damage caused by a devastating windstorm at the state’s permanent orientation camp in Paiko.

In a statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, the NYSC disclosed that the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I Orientation Course for corps members posted to Niger State will commence on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.

The scheme explained that due to the ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of facilities at the Paiko Orientation Camp by the Niger State Government, all corps members deployed to the state will undertake their orientation programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Abuja.

According to the schedule released by the management, registration of corps members will begin on July 7 and end at midnight on Thursday, July 9, 2026. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, July 9, while the three-week orientation exercise will conclude with a closing ceremony on Monday, July 27, 2026.

The announcement brings relief to thousands of prospective corps members whose orientation programme was disrupted after the severe windstorm damaged critical infrastructure at the Paiko camp, forcing the NYSC to suspend camping activities in the state. The incident had raised concerns among affected corps members regarding the commencement of their national service.

By relocating the orientation exercise to Abuja, the NYSC aims to ensure that participants complete the mandatory programme without further delays while rehabilitation works continue at the Niger State facility.

The management also advised corps members travelling to the orientation camp to prioritize their safety by avoiding night journeys and adhering to all travel guidelines.

The reopening of the orientation programme marks a significant step toward restoring normal NYSC operations for corps members deployed to Niger State, while efforts continue to fully rehabilitate the damaged camp infrastructure in Paiko.

NYSC management wished all participants safe travels and a successful orientation exercise as preparations intensify for the commencement of the programme on July 7.
