Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups exploiting his name and identity for fraudulent online promotions, urging the public to disregard such deceptive activities.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Obi expressed concern over the persistent misuse of his name to endorse various online businesses and ventures without his consent. Despite previous clarifications from his aides, unscrupulous entities continue to leverage his identity for personal and commercial gain, misleading unsuspecting members of the public.
“I wish to state categorically that I have no connection whatsoever with any of these endorsements or promotional activities,” Obi declared. “At no time have I authorised any individual, business, or online platform to use my name, image, or identity for commercial purposes or profit-making ventures.”
Obi described these actions as fraudulent and deceptive, aimed at exploiting public trust. He advised Nigerians to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any online content claiming his involvement in business dealings. “Genuine information concerning me or my engagements will continue to be communicated through officially verified channels,” he emphasized.
The statement comes amid growing concerns about online scams in Nigeria, where fraudsters often impersonate prominent figures to lure victims. Obi’s team has pledged to take necessary measures to address the issue and protect the public from further deception.
Members of the public are urged to report any suspicious use of Obi’s name or image to the relevant authorities and to rely solely on verified sources for information about the politician’s activities.
