Obi speaks on ‘deal’ with angry PDP govs

On Tuesday, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, outlined the “deal” he had with a few disgruntled PDP governors.

He spoke when he visited Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, in Makurdi.

Mr. Obi claimed that in the face of rising security threats and a humanitarian crisis, he and the PDP governors share a desire to build a better Nigeria.

During the current situation, he criticized the All Progressive Congress for acting without leadership.

Mr. Ortom received accolades from Mr. Obi for tackling security issues in Benue State at his own risk and convenience.

On his part, Ortom advised Mr. Obi to seek the support of other prominent presidential contenders while pledging to represent the interests of the people.

The governor claimed that he would have been working for the Labour party candidate if he had not joined the PDP.

Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikepeazu of Abia State, and Mr. Ortom are a few of the PDP governors that are upset.

Because of a prior agreement, the governors have asked PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu to step down in favor of a southerner.

The governors have withdrawn their support for Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, since Mr. Ayu is adamant about staying on as chairman.

Some speculate that Mr. Obi would receive backing from the irate PDP governors in the 2023 presidential elections.
