Omarana Org Fires Back: “Stop Using Courts to Distract From Real Governance”

The Omarana Campaign Organization has cautioned against what it described as the growing trend of diverting attention from critical governance issues through politically charged actions, following criminal proceedings instituted against the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Amb. Engr. Omar Suleiman (Omarana) over allegations linked to the placement of campaign posters.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, the campaign said it respects the rule of law and has confidence in the judiciary to independently determine the matter before it. However, it expressed concern that governance in Adamawa State appears to be increasingly overshadowed by political distractions rather than focused on addressing the pressing needs of citizens.

The organization argued that while environmental regulations are important, the state government should devote equal energy to tackling long-standing environmental challenges such as indiscriminate waste disposal, overflowing refuse dumps, blocked drainage systems, poor sanitation, and other issues affecting communities across the state.

According to the campaign, these environmental concerns have persisted throughout much of the current administration’s tenure without receiving the level of attention and urgency expected by residents.

The statement emphasized that Omar Suleiman’s vision for Adamawa, captured in the slogan “Adamawa That Works, For Today, For Tomorrow,” is centered on practical and sustainable environmental solutions.

These include modern waste management systems, urban beautification, afforestation initiatives, forest protection, climate-resilient policies, and community-driven environmental conservation efforts.

The campaign questioned the timing of the prosecution, noting that many residents are more concerned about challenges such as unemployment, insecurity, poor infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and economic development.

It also disclosed that the campaign had already directed all supporters, volunteers, coordinators, and members of the Omarana Movement to immediately stop the indiscriminate placement of posters, banners, stickers, and other campaign materials on public and private property.

Describing environmental sustainability as a core component of Omar Suleiman’s development agenda, the campaign said the directive reflects its commitment to lawful political engagement and responsible environmental practices.

The organization further alleged that campaign materials belonging to several political parties remain visible in various locations across the state, raising concerns about what it described as selective enforcement of environmental regulations.

It warned that for democratic governance to thrive, laws must be applied fairly and uniformly to all political parties and candidates, regardless of political affiliation.

Despite the legal action, the campaign maintained that Omar Suleiman would remain focused on engaging the people of Adamawa with his message of hope, accountability, and development-oriented leadership.

The statement stressed that no court case would derail the campaign’s mission of presenting solutions to the challenges facing the state, adding that the growing support for the ADC candidate reflects citizens’ desire for visionary and results-driven leadership.

The campaign concluded by urging its supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and environmentally responsible, while calling on relevant authorities to ensure that justice is administered fairly and transparently.

It reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing policies aimed at improving environmental management, economic growth, and the overall quality of life for residents, insisting that its focus remains on building “an Adamawa that works for all, for today and for tomorrow.”
