A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has blasted South East leaders for refusing to rise up against the Nigerian Army deployment of troops and helicopters to Orlu in Imo State.
Omokri, who uploaded on his verified Twitter handle, a video showing a helicopter hovering in the air and sounds of guns allegedly being fired by the soldiers deployed to Orlu, wondered why the South-East leader would choose to keep silence in the face of ‘injustice’ being meted out to the region by President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
The soldiers in Orlu are said to be searching for Eastern Security Network, a local security outfit recently set up by the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra to protect the region from killer Fulani herdsmen and other criminals.
Omokri wrote, “The Defence Minister himself told Nigerians not to be cowards, and to face herdsmen and bandits. So, why send troops, artillery and helicopters to Orlu to neutralise ESN volunteers. ESN is doing exactly what the minister said. They are resisting herdsmen/bandits.
“Have ESN been known to abduct, kill or rape? How many helicopters are searching for the abducted Kagara boys? How many troops are in Katsina forests? None, to the best of my knowledge. @MBuhari is too busy deploying them in Orlu, where no one has been abducted!
“Buhari is a tribal bigot and I’m not surprised he sent troops and helicopters to Orlu. However, I’m more disappointed in SE leaders. If the North ever faced this type of injustice, Northern leaders will unite against their common oppressor. Where are SE leaders?
“Why are SE leaders not speaking or raising hell? I do not like everything Nnamdi Kanu does. But I respect him for his passionate love for his people. True leaders don’t keep quiet when their people are under attack. Where are the true leaders of the SE? Where?
“There were ethnic clashes between the Yoruba and Hausa in Sasa. in less than 48 hours, 4 Northern Governors went to Oyo to pressure Oyo’s government to give Northerners justice. 96 hours after Orlu’s invasion, how many SE leaders have visited Orlu in solidarity?
“If not for the Supreme Court Governor in Imo, the invasion of Orlu by troops, helicopters and artillery would not have happened. Emeka Ihedioha would never have allowed this. As bad as Rochas is, he would not allow this. Maybe this was why they wanted Uzodinma!”
