A violent clash on Friday between policemen at Area G Command, Ogba, Lagos, and commercial motorcycle riders, popularly called Okada, said to be mostly from the Northern part of the country, has left one person dead.

It was gathered that the violence resulted in panicky residents, traders and hawkers fleeing the area in droves to escape being caught up in the raging violence.

Recall that barely one week ago, an outbreak of violence between Okada riders and transport union members led to the death of many and loss of property in the Mile 2 Area of the state.

According to an eye witness, “Ogba region of Lagos is currently a no-go zone due to clashes between Hausa Okada riders and police officers.

“The Okada riders, who are mostly northerners, are fighting the ‘area G’ cops after the latter shot one of them in an attempt to forcibly arrest him. The boy later died this morning, and the irate youths are now at the Area G to take their own pound of flesh. It is like a mini-war and everyone is scampering away from there to safe places. If you have anyone living or working in Ogba call him or her now to ascertain his or her safety.”

As of the time of filing this report, the violence was still raging and no official statement has been issued on the incident.
