The newly elected Secretary General of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, (OPEC) Sanusi Barkindo has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s moves to address the resurgent militancy in the oil rich Niger Delta region.
Barkindo who made the commendation during an interview session with newsmen in Yola noted that the ongoing reconciliatory talks with the militants was the best way of resolving the resurgent agitation in the region although he noted with concern, that the militancy has dealt severe blow to the economy of the country.
The OPEC Scribe use the occasion to thank President Muhammadu Buhari and the state minister of petroleum Ibe Kachukwu for lobbying other OPEC member states to support his ambition culminating in his emergence as the new Secretary General of OPEC.
He noted that he would ensure the prevalence of harmony, unity and sustainable cooperation within the OPEC countries in order to ensure that the lost glory of crude oil was restored.
Barkindo therefore pledge the convocation of an emergency congress of OPEC countries in order to discuss the best way to address the dwindling prices of cried oil noting that the free fall of crude oil price was a source of concern among member states.
