As discussions surrounding Adamawa State’s political future continue to gain momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle, a supporter of Chief Maurice Michael Vunobolki, Mr. Peter Cheman Koti of Koti community in Song Local Government Area, has described the development expert and administrator as a statesman capable of leading Adamawa into its next phase of growth and sustainable development.
In an opinion piece made available to journalists, Koti argued that Nigeria’s political history has often been marked by a cycle of unrealized potential, where leadership transitions fail to sustain developmental gains achieved by previous administrations.
According to him, citizens frequently find themselves comparing current governments with their predecessors, a trend he said has slowed national development and hindered continuity in governance across many states.
He, however, noted that Adamawa State has experienced notable progress under the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, whose policies and projects have helped reposition the state in recent years.
Koti stressed that while the governor’s achievements are widely acknowledged, the challenge ahead lies in identifying a successor capable of building on those accomplishments and taking the state to greater heights.
He identified Chief Maurice Michael Vunobolki as one of the personalities possessing the leadership qualities required to consolidate and expand the gains recorded under the current administration.
According to Koti, Vunobolki’s track record reflects a combination of visionary leadership, practical problem-solving skills, and a commitment to inclusive governance.
He pointed to the chief’s role in the implementation of a World Bank-assisted recovery programme in Northeast Nigeria, describing it as evidence of his ability to manage complex development challenges while delivering tangible results.
“Chief Maurice has consistently demonstrated the capacity to anticipate challenges and develop innovative solutions. His leadership style embraces diverse perspectives, bringing together people across ethnic, religious, and generational divides in pursuit of common goals,” Koti stated.
He further noted that Vunobolki’s emphasis on mentorship and leadership development has enabled him to nurture younger professionals and emerging leaders, a quality he said would ensure continuity and institutional growth beyond any single administration.
Koti argued that these attributes position Vunobolki as a potential leader capable of transforming developmental progress into a lasting tradition in Adamawa State.
“Governor Fintiri has undoubtedly moved Adamawa forward, but sustaining that momentum requires leadership that can institutionalize progress and prevent regression. Chief Maurice possesses the experience and vision necessary to achieve that objective,” he said.
Referencing a popular leadership quote that emphasizes building the future rather than preserving the past, Koti maintained that Adamawa’s next challenge is not merely finding a leader who can deliver development but one who can establish enduring systems that guarantee long-term prosperity.
He added that Vunobolki’s experience extends beyond local politics and reflects governance principles applicable across Africa, where many regions continue to struggle with leadership transitions and sustainable development.
According to Koti, the lessons from Vunobolki’s leadership approach could serve as a model for addressing governance challenges and unlocking the full potential of communities through inclusive and pragmatic policymaking.
He concluded that while Adamawa has witnessed significant progress in recent years, the future demands leadership capable of elevating those achievements into a permanent culture of development.
“Adamawa has tasted progress. The next chapter requires a leader who can make that progress a tradition. Chief Maurice Michael Vunobolki stands as one of the figures capable of writing that chapter,” Koti said.
