Even before the eve of 2023 election get it’s way to the country’s timeline, the political atmosphere is becoming cloudy, gloomy and warm with a lot of political permutation taking the center stage across the populous black nations of the world.
What could one depict from these hovering of cloud shouldering some political actors across party lines in search of a different block to excel or maintain status quo in the political arena.
The recent exit of Governor Dave Umahi and Sen. Elisha Abbo from the main opposition party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has become a major blow to the PDP which in turn would lead to an imbalance at the Wadata Plaza.
On the 17th November 2020, Engr. Dave Umahi officially announced his exit from the PDP to APC, flaunting injustice as a basis for justification in a party he enjoyed enormous privileges for the last two decades.
Looking at the developmental strifes laid by Umahi in Ebonyi State, one can say without any contradiction or fear of critics that ‘Engr. Dave Umahi is second to none in the history of the south-east region and as such, would be difficult to be rallied against in the entire region.
In the same development, Sen. Elisha Abbo could be seen as a major player and catalyst in the emergence of Governor Umaru Fintiri as governor of Adamawa State. But along the line, disharmony emanate among them which could be traced to the governor’s attempt to impose his candidates as LGA chairmen across the state even against the interest of the party stakeholders, thereby using his veto power to silence the voice of others within the state party chapter which led to a crisis in the party that in turn led to the polarization of the party in the state.
Sen. Elisha Abbo who is also popularly known as Cliff is a dogged politician and has within his short period of emergence into politics worn the heart of youth not just in Adamawa North Senatorial District but across the state in general in which today many are clamouring that he aspires for the number one seat in the state come 2023.
Also, another dust in the PDP family is the meeting of the ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan with the governors of the All Progressive Congress which has, in turn, left ripples as many commentators and the political analyst views it as a move to swoop Jonathan into the ruling All Progressive Congress ahead of 2023.
Rumours had it that the ex-president may succumb and submit himself to the ruling APC and some governors and lawmakers are expected to join the trend.
Amidst these current scuffles to clinch the number one seat, and with the heavy blow on the side of the opposition party is receiving and the vow by the ruling APC to retain power beyond 2023, where then lies the fate of the nation’s main opposition party?
