In a surprising political development, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, alongside prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, have publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu as their preferred candidate for the 2027 general election.

The announcement, made during a state-wide PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, has sparked widespread reactions across Nigeria’s political landscape.
President Tinubu has shown remarkable vision in steering Nigeria toward progress. His policies align with our aspirations for a prosperous nation
Governor Adeleke, a key PDP figure, praised Tinubu’s leadership, citing his administration’s economic reforms and infrastructure development as reasons for the endorsement. “President Tinubu has shown remarkable vision in steering Nigeria toward progress. His policies align with our aspirations for a prosperous nation,” Adeleke stated.
He urged Osun PDP members to rally behind Tinubu, emphasizing unity for national development over party lines.
The endorsement has raised eyebrows, given the PDP’s historical opposition to Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC). Sources within the party suggest that Adeleke’s decision may be driven by strategic alignments ahead of 2027, with some PDP members expressing hope that supporting Tinubu could secure federal support for Osun’s development projects.
However, the move has also drawn criticism from PDP loyalists, who view it as a betrayal of the party’s principles.

APC leaders in Osun have welcomed the endorsement, describing it as a testament to Tinubu’s growing national appeal. “This is a bold step toward unity and progress,” said APC Osun State Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal.
Political analysts predict this development could reshape alliances in the Southwest, potentially weakening the PDP’s base in Osun. As reactions pour in, all eyes are on how this endorsement will influence Nigeria’s political dynamics ahead of the 2027 polls.
