Over 100 Sacked CBN Staff Sue for Entitlements, Damages

In a bold move, over 100 former employees of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have filed lawsuits against the financial institution, seeking damages and entitlements after being abruptly terminated under President Bola Tinubu’s reorganisation strategy.

The affected staff, who were let go in May 2024, claim wrongful termination and are demanding justice. Lead Counsel Ola Olanipekun (SAN) revealed that his clients are seeking payment for damages, monthly salaries, allowances, and other emoluments, totaling hundreds of millions of Naira.

The lawsuits, filed at the National Industrial Court, aim to enforce the staff’s right to fair hearing

One client, with nine years of service left, is claiming N178,360,127.00 in lost salaries and allowances, as well as N100,000,000 in general damages for wrongful termination.

The counsel also demands N30,000,000 in litigation costs and 21% post-judgment interest.

The lawsuits, filed at the National Industrial Court, aim to enforce the staff’s right to fair hearing and challenge the unlawful termination of their services. The CBN’s reorganisation strategy has left the affected staff unsettled, and they are now fighting for their entitlements and justice.
