Over 150 Senior Police Officers Face Disciplinary Panel Over ‘Misconduct’

In a sweeping crackdown on alleged misconduct, no fewer than 151 senior police officers, from Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) rank and above, are under scrutiny by a Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) convened by the Nigeria Police Force.

The panel, which began its proceedings on Monday, July 14, is investigating claims of professional misconduct and ethical violations across various commands and formations nationwide.

The probe was triggered by multiple petitions lodged with Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, citing allegations of brutality, extortion, and other serious infractions.

Sources indicate that the complaints originated from a range of stakeholders, including lawyers and civil society organizations, prompting the police high command to act swiftly.

The FDC, tasked with reviewing these cases, is expected to conclude its investigation within 10 days and forward its recommendations to the Police Service Commission for disciplinary action against culpable officers.

The process is designed to ensure transparency and adherence to established police regulations, according to Force spokesman, Assistant Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Speaking in Abuja, Adejobi emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s zero-tolerance stance on indiscipline. “The Inspector-General has reaffirmed his commitment to upholding discipline and ethical conduct within the Force,” he stated. “The FDC is an essential mechanism for addressing breaches of professional standards, ensuring that senior officers are held accountable through a fair and thorough review process.”
